When I have first moved to Dublin over a year ago, I had no idea I’ll stay any longer than 6 months, or that I will love it this much, or that I will ever even want to stay any longer than planned.
I also wasn’t aware of how amazingly beautiful Dublin is in December, being it my first full month in Dublin last year. I do miss snow at Christmas, but the city is literally incredible. All the lights, Christmas trees, shop windows, decorations, causes, events, people, laughter… It’s unbelievable!
To continue my Dublin is awesome series, I have decided to share some photos that best showcase the spirit of Christmas in Dublin.
Last week, I have spent a few afternoons outside running some finalΒ pre-Christmas errands and there were some moments that left me seriously stunned. One of my favorite ones was seeing a 24-hour Carolathon by Simon Community… And this is only one of so many fantastic causes happening!
Other than that, photos will speak a bit better than words. So enjoy!
So… Dublin is awesome, right?
Well IMHO, im totally disappointed with xmass decoration in Dublin. Just take a look at any Austrian/German/Switzerland/French town, you can’t even compare it! Putting few lights above the main streets can’t be called decoration frankly. I will not even mention last NY fireworks, it was funny and sad in the same time.
But, streets and pubs are always full here, you don’t have to wait for ny/xmass, and that’s the good thing:)!
The thing is, I find it’s too much kitsch when there is too many lights and everything, so this many is just perfect to me! π But yes, pubs are sound at any time! π
I’m German and in many of the bigger cities, the decoration is quite the same as in Dublin π Looks lovely! But personally (and totally biased) I think that the German Christmas markets can’t be beat! π Have a merry Christmas!
Hey Michelle! π Still haven’t seen them – I will have them on my bucket list for future travels! Thank you, all the best to you these holidays! π
Wow, I’m from Chicago so I’m utterly and completely impressed by this Christmas decor! Like.. It’s huge! Kudos to Dublin and to you for moving somewhere you weren’t sure you were going to fall in love with and for falling in love with it enough to share it with us Americans! It definitely inspires me to travel myself!
The pictures are beautiful! I didn’t have a lot of time to spend in Dublin when I visited . . . It looks like I need to go back for another visit.
I went to Dublin for a few days in July and I can totally understand why you enjoy living there!
I hope I’ll come again because it is indeed a GREAT city π
It must looks so nice for Christmas! Anyway, great post dear β‘
Have a nice day!

The new new girl
If you ever get the chance to visit it again, try to do it in winter! π all the best to you! π
I love Dublin at Christmas too! I think Grafton Street and the Powerscourt Centre look so magical. And I love the energy and conviviality of all the family and social get togethers.
Dublin airport is really special at Xmas – they do such a great job of celebrating all those returning for the holiday. At passport control, the guys always say “welcome home!” when they see an Irish passport. It makes you feel so warm and fuzzy and happy to be back π
Omg you just made ME feel warm and fuzzy just at the thought of that! So awesome! And the airport looks nice, too π
Lovely lights! I think you’d like Covent Garden’s lights in London – they were huge mistletoe’s this year!

Thank you so much – I agree! π
GORGEOUS! I was actually talking to my husband the other day about how I would love the visit. Let’s just say you confirmed how badly I want to go!
Now go ahead and show him the photos! Fingers crossed you visit soon, because you should! π
Great pictures. I love seeing how different parts of the world decorate.
Right?! Me too! π
Dublin looks gorgeous during the Christmas season! I was there in summer and just loved the combination of the British and the European feel it had. Definitely a bucket-list city!
Definitely! π
Love this! You make me miss my home country seeing these beautiful pictures, it really is a special place over christmas! Love the style of your blog and can’t wait to hear more of your adventures.
